From here you will need to generate a registration code. You do this by adding your mobile phone number to the form, as well as selecting a password. Once you have done this, you will receive your registration code via an SMS message.
Next, you will need to verify your account. This is done by entering your registration code into the form that pops up, along with your mobile phone number. Once your registration code has been accepted, you are good to go! You will be asked to set a PIN so that you can easily log into your account via your mobile phone, should you need to.
Bonus Offer
Unfortunately, SportPesa does not currently offer a bonus for new customers. It also does not seem to offer any kind of promotions or bonuses for regular customers either. We are not sure why SportPesa is so shy in offering bonuses to Kenya-based sports bettors, especially as it offers bonuses to its site users in other countries. There is always the chance that this situation will change in the future, so we suggest keeping your eye on this page for future updates.
How to deposit at SportPesa
There are two ways to deposit at SportsPesa – via your mobile phone, or via the internet.
• How to deposit at SportPesa via your mobile phone
SportsPeas accepts deposits from two mobile payment providers, M-Pesa and Airtel Money. The deposit process is the same for both methods.
For either, you need to access the mobile money menu on your phone app for M-Pesa or Airtel Money. The paybill numbers that you need to know are (for M-Pesa) 955100 or 955700 or (for Airtel Money) SPORTPESA. You will also need to select the amount of money that you wish to deposit. Please note that you will need to make sure you have sufficient funds in your M-Pesa or Airtel Money account, else your transfer will fail.
Once you have confirmed your deposit the money will be transferred instantly, and you will receive an SMS message as confirmation. As soon as you receive your confirmation your money will be available to play with.
If you don’t have the M-Pesa or Airtel Money option then you can also transfer money directly via USSD. This is done by dialling *790# and selecting option 4 on your mobile phone.
• How to deposit at SportPesa via the internet
Currently, SportPesa does not accept payments via debit cards, credit cards or eWallet providers, but that may change in the future!
How to withdraw money
No matter how you get money into your SportsPesa account, there is only one way to get money out of your account, and that’s via your mobile phone.
• How to withdraw from SportPesa via your mobile phone
To withdraw you need to send an SMS message to 79079, which is the SportPesa SMS number. The message must follow the format ‘W#xxxx#**** where xxxx is the amount you want to withdraw, and **** is your SportPesa PIN number (which you will have received upon registration).
For example, say you wanted to withdraw KES 2000 from your SportPesa account, and your SportPesa PIN is 1234. You would, therefore, transfer the amount by sending the SMS message W#2000#1234 to 79079.
You will receive an SMS from SportPesa once the transfer has been successful, and your
mobile money account will be credited as soon as the transaction has been approved. You should also receive an SMS message from your M-Pesa or your Airtel Money account.
SportPesa Mobile App for Android or iPhone
For the best and most immediate sports betting experience, it is probably preferable for you to use your mobile device to review the latest sports betting odds and to place your bets. Unfortunately, currently the app is only available for Android devices, but iPhone and iPad users can use the website directly via any suitable browser, such as Safari.
To download and install the app on an Android-based device, you need to visit sportpesa.co.ke/app on your device and click the blue ‘Download now’ button. You can download the app to your laptop or PC too, but you will then need to transfer it across to the device that you want to use the app on.
The file you download is an apk file. This is an Android package file that will unpack itself when you select it and then install the app. You may need to go to Settings > Application > Unknown Sources to allow the app to be installed. By default, for security reasons Android-based phones do not allow you to install apk files that you have downloaded.
Once you have installed the app it should appear on your home screen and in your applications menu.
If you have an iPhone or iPad you can navigate to sportpesa.co.ke via any suitable browser. You will not have the full mobile sports betting experience as a dedicated app, but you will still be able to place bets via a fully mobile-optimised site.
What Sports Can You Bet on at SportPesa?
The betting site has an incredible range of markets and covers all major and most minor sporting events. Here is a quick rundown of the type of events and the competitions you can bet on at SportsPesa.
Betting on Football
Just like at most sports betting sites, it is the most popular game in the world that garners the most attention at SportPesa. This is to be expected as the site does sponsor the leading football competition in Kenya, the Premier League.
All the major football competitions are covered, including domestic leagues in Europe such as the English Premier League, La Liga (Spain), the Bundesliga (Germany), Serie A (Italy), Ligue 1 (France) and the Eliteserien (Norway). Elite international tournaments such as the UEFA European Champions League and the UEFA Europa League receive coverage too.
Sportpesa Kenya
International tournaments are covered as well, such as the annual African Cup of Nations, plus the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championships and Nations League whenever they take place.
Betting on Basketball
Basketball at SportPesa mainly focuses on the NBA, which is the premier basketball league in the USA. There is also coverage of NCAA and WNBA in the US, plus the leading basketball leagues in Europe, including Germany, Spain, and many Eastern European countries.
Betting on Tennis
Tennis coverage at SportsPesa takes in the four major tennis tournaments when they occur – the US, Australian and French Opens plus Wimbledon in the UK. There’s also coverage of the main international tennis tours such as the ATP, WTA and the challenge circuit.
Betting on Rugby Union
The focus on rugby union here is based on the main leagues in England and France, plus the ‘Super Rugby’ league which encapsulates Argentina, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. There’s coverage of the annual six nations tournament too which includes England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, and Italy, plus the World Cup when it takes place.
If you are interested in the other main version of rugby – rugby league – then you’ll find that SportPesa does not include any coverage of that.
Betting on Boxing
As you might expect, all major WBO, WBA and IBF bouts at all weights and classes are covered.
Betting on Cricket
There are the expected markets available in cricket, with coverage of all first class test sides including South Africa, Australia, West Indies, England, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This includes coverage of the World Cup plus test matches, one day games, and T20s.
Betting on Handball
Handball may be practically non-existent in Kenya but it is extremely popular in mainland Europe. Coverage here is given to tournaments in Spain, Germany, Poland, Russia, and others.
Betting on Ice Hockey
Another sport that is – quite understandably – hardly ever played in Kenya, ice hockey fans still have plenty of wagering opportunities on their favourite sport. There is coverage here of the NHL in the United States, plus international games and the Olympics.
Betting on MMA
Interest in MMA has spiralled in recent years, with the fighting sport overtaking boxing in popularity. All MMA events are covered here with particular focus on the UFC.
Betting on Volleyball
Another sport with little coverage in Kenya, despite the continual success of Kenya’s women’s national volleyball team. Focus on volleyball at SportPesa is mainly on Italy and international tournaments.
Live Betting
Live betting has its own ‘mini-site’ at SportPesa Kenya. Here you will find a list of the current most popular live events that are happening in the sports betting world, complete with live details. If you find an event that you like the look of then click on the arrow to the left of the event’s details. You will find all the live markets for that event which are currently available.
SportPesa Jackpots
The SportPesa Jackpot is what every sports-betting expert dreams about – the chance to win an amazing amount of money for little input cash. Each weekend, seventeen games are selected from various sporting events (usually football). You forecast the result of each game (home win, draw or away win). To win the mega-jackpot, all you need to do is correctly predict the result of all seventeen games.
If that sounds unachievable, well, several lucky sports bettors have got all seventeen games correct in the past, plus you can win prizes for correctly predicting 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 games. If no one wins the main jackpot it rolls over until the next weekend, just like a lottery jackpot. The total keep rolling over until finally, someone wins it!
Customer Care
There’s no need to worry if you become unstuck at SportPesa Kenya. They take customer care very seriously and you can get help around the clock, all days of the week. All you need to do is telephone (0755) 079 079 or (0709) 079 079 for instant solutions to your problems. If your issue is not of an urgent nature, then you can contact the site at [email protected]
Pros and Cons
Pros
• Easy-to-use deposit and withdrawal options
• All major sporting events are covered, with extensive coverage of football
• Customer care available to all site users 24/7
Cons
• No welcome bonus nor any ongoing promotions
Overall Rating of SportPesa
There are plenty of people who feel that SportPesa is one of the premier sporting betting sites for Kenyan-based sports bettors and it is incredibly easy to see why. This amazing and professional-looking site has everything any sports bettor could want, although the lack of bonuses and ongoing promotions is something of a disappointment.
Of primary concern to anyone in Kenya who wants to bet on sports is the ability to get money into their sports betting account, and with SportPesa there are certainly no issues with thanks to the site’s use of SMS-based monetary transfers.
This is a company with an international reputation that is well deserved, and it’s no wonder that top European sides such as Arsenal and Everton have agreed to enter endorsement partnerships with them. For a safe and secure sports-betting experience, you perhaps need to look no further than SportPesa Kenya!
